I personally love symphony orchestra concerts. After being part of my high school band, I realized how much I enjoyed it. Therefore, I would be most comfortable as an audience member in those concerts. Based on my experience with the trumpet, it feels great to be part of the performance and most importantly to enjoy the harmony of the song pieces. The most recent concert I attended to was the Wind Symphony Concert in LeFrak Concert Hall on Thursday. It was amazing. The conductor and the performers demonstrated their passion for music through their face expressions and with the great talents the soloist’s demonstrated. Another reason why I would be comfortable in a symphony orchestra concert is because you can enjoy it by sitting down and not being in a crowd just like in the Coachella Music festival. Lastly, I like dressing formally in these concerts. The times I’ve been in Carnegie Hall, I had to dress formally and I actually liked it.

What I expect from the performers in the orchestra concerts is to be dressed in all black, a soloist from every instrument, and their concentration on their music. For the conductor, I expect him/her to cue each section, hand and face expressions and introduce the meaning of each song piece. The way I would act as a listener is to be respectful and not use my phone. Besides that, I would differentiate the dynamics of each song piece and the melody, as well as any type of forms in the music.

I wouldn’t be comfortable in a jazz concert. Based on the video we saw in class, I wouldn’t enjoy it because the people were more interested in the drinks rather than the performers. The space the performers had was small and seeing them crowded would bother me. I also feel like every jazz song sounds the same. In the other types of concerts, every song piece have a different melody.

  1. I agree with the fact that you could be much more comfortable at symphony orchestra concerts compared to other type of concerts. Personally feel like you could be more in sync with the music and enjoy it due to the audience being quiet. There is much more respect at these types of concerts.
