“Libertango”, performed and composed by Astor Piazzola was a composition about the advancements in classical tango which means new elements serving a role in the traditional tango music and a new style of dancing for tango. In the past, the tango dance was meant for couples and led by the man. Also, the way the dancer “seems to draw figures on the floor with the foot” (251) is interesting because it makes me think of this dance as smooth and moves along with the music just right. The calming music accompanies the nice flow of the dance movement as the dancers rotate with one another. Overall, the music is steady and acts as a perfect guide for the dancers. On the other hand, in the modern day, “Libertango” would not serve the same romantic purpose but rather a type of dance for entertainment such as being displayed in films or even for fun. Most of the steps taken in performing this dance and the way the performers dress in a sort of professional way would remain the same in the modern day. A main difference in today’s tango music would be the variations available due to our modern day technology and advanced instruments compared to back then. I think the changes I noticed are more positive because in a way, people are still preserving the way the dance should be performed and following the same form of music. In any case, people in the modern day could add an extra instrument to provide a more intense scene.
“Rite of Spring”, performed and composed by Igor Stravinsky was his own “twist” to such a sad story of a girl who is chosen as a sacrifice for a ritual and dances herself to death. This ballet had a huge impact in the past but mainly because of its unexpected dance performance and disturbing music to most of the audience. This ballet wasn’t your typical one that you would see of a person moving around elegantly with a peaceful sounding music in the background. Instead, here, you have Stravinsky playing as the girl with his crew and making very strange movements that goes along with the disturbing music nicely. People were outraged by his performance and the music was not at all what they expected from such a ballet. The music had a lot of dissonance and shifting meters. However, in the modern day, it is likely that many people would see “Rite of Spring” as a form of another entertainment and actually interesting as there is definitely a deeper meaning behind Stravinsky’s strange ballet. The loud dissonance and its purpose in the performance would stay the same especially for many plays we have nowadays. From my own experience, I always hear the same loud dissonance in other plays/performances at times of despair or any other negative aspects of a story being displayed.

Hi I also write about the “Libertango” in my blog, but I like how you explained the movements of the dancers and also presented your own opinion about why you thought it was interesting. I also found it fascinating how you clearly explained the differences between the tango when it first originated to now in modern day. Also the input that you included in the last sentence about the instrumentation was really great
