I come from a Latino background, my parent’s were both born in Paraguay. The traditional dance / most popular dance of Paraguay is the “La Danza De La Botella” which means the Dance of the Bottles. The dance is a sequence of dancers (primarily females) putting a bottle on their heads and dancing around with it while balancing it. As the dance continues, there are people who stack more and more bottles on the dancers’ heads. Sometimes, ladders are used to put more bottles on the heads of the performers. The record is said to be 18 bottles total. The dance originated in the 19th Century, however how it was made is a little blurry. Some say it was made when people were bored, and some others say that it was made during a time of conquest in Paraguay. It is said that soldiers used to make dancers stack bottles on their heads for entertainment and sometimes would toy with them by aiming their weapons at them during the dance. However the dance is still very popular in Paraguayan culture and it is seen more as just a fun dance for everyone now. However, it is not that popular worldwide. There are instruments played during the performance, which include but are not limited to – trumpets, trombones, and drums.

I must say out of all the dances I have heard of, I find this the most interesting. I can imagine this was a very nerve wrecking dance when half the time a soldier would be pointing his weapon at you for fun.
