The historical period of Western Art that sounds most interesting to me is the Classical Period (1730-1820). The Enlightenment changed the way people thought. My intended major is biology and this era made a huge impact on reason and science. The Enlightenment also emphasized the individual and natural law, which led to the American Revolution. There were many historical events that occurred during this period. Music is a great form of expression and it is interesting to think about how the events surrounding this period affected their creative process. The textbook describes the music with Italian and German styles and a form of balance and symmetry. The textbook also mentions that the composers would use different melodies and tones in their pieces.
The composer that I picked was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and I listen to Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, K. 550. The piece does sound like what I thought it would be like. The piece says a story through the tone which the textbook mentioned.
I agree with your idea that music is a great form of expression. Like any other form of art, music can be a reflection of what reality is, or may be influenced by its period of time.
