The song that I chose to write about is “Do I Wanna Know” by Arctic Monkeys. Arctic Monkeys released this song in 2013 on their album “AM.” This band began in 2002 in the UK, and is considered an indie rock band. I have really enjoyed all of their music despite the fact that I’ve only been listening to their music for a few months now. They have a really unique sound that almost travels through your entire body (if that even makes sense).

First, I want to focus on the rhythm of this song. Right from the beginning, the song starts with a steady beat that continues throughout the entirety of the song, even under the added vocals and instruments. The beat is consistent and obvious enough for you to be able to immediately recognize and identify it. The vocals in this piece of music also has a relatively conjunct range, as the pitches aren’t too far from each other (although there are moments closer towards the end of the song where the pitch reaches a higher point compared to earlier, but this doesn’t occur too often).

The timbre is also developed through the heavy use of string instruments, such as electric guitar and bass, as well as percussion. The drums and symbols are what help to give this song a lot of energy. The sound that these elements give the song make it very catchy and help it maintain a steady rhythm that supports the vocals and other sounds.
