I chose to write about the electronic drum. The electronic drum is a modern day electronic instrument and special type of synthesizer that was created by a drummer Graeme Edge from The Moody Blues in the early 1970s. Its purpose is to serve as a second type of acoustic drum kit, while being set up in the same layout. However, when you strike the drum pad for an electronic drum, it has a sensor that generates an electric signal. The electric signal is then sent to the digital drum module which emits the sound from the pad. The drum module offers a variety of high quality digital sounds such as on board sounds, audio loops, and many more. This type of drum creates such a whole different nice set of beats and just really balances out the various modern day songs whether it be a calming/slow or fast paced rhythm.
I have no experience with the electronic drum but I’ve always been really interested in playing it. One piece of music that uses this type of instrument is “Without You” by a small indie-pop group called Oh Wonder. The electronic drum provides that steady beat as the two voices sing in unity along with the electronic keyboard in the background.
