The musical technology I decided to talk about is the piano. The piano was invented during the early 18th century by a man named Bartolomeo Cristofori. A piano is a large keyboard musical instrument that has metal strings and makes a sound when struck by the hammer and it has a wooden case that encloses the soundboard and the metal strings. There are also many different types of the piano like the grand piano, the keyboard, the upright piano, the electric piano, and more. The purpose of the piano was to make life easier, it created a sound that was appealing to people and help them create a lot of the worlds most popular music. A lot of people use this instrument not only to create new songs but some might use it to play a song that they like, learn to play a song, or they enjoy the sound it makes and it relaxes them to play it. I don’t know how to play the piano but its an instrument I always go to back to and try to teach myself a song. I enjoy the sound of it because it is very beautiful and relaxing so that’s why it is one of my favorite instruments to listen to.
I chose the song “My Everything” by Ariana Grande. The piano is what you hear first when you listen to this song and as she continues singing it is playing in the background. The piano really helps in making the song because the lyrics of the song is really touching and with the piano in the background playing the chords and different pitches you can feel the emotion in the song as she singing it. The piano influenced this music because it set the melody to this piece and we can hear how the sound of the piano worked well in the way that Ariana was singing the song to let the listener have a better understanding of what kind of song it is.

It was interesting to learn how a piano works. From the outside it seems like your just pushing a key and it produces sound, but what happens on the inside was something I had not known from before. Its so interesting how many different types of Pianos there are. I agree that the Piano is an instrument I would love to learn. It is very relaxing to listen to.
I also was unaware of the way in which a piano produced sound so it was really interesting when we talked about it in class. You mentioned an upright piano which I had never heard of, so when I looked up the differences and listened to each I thought it was really interesting that the strings were vertical instead of horizontal and that was what resulted in the shorter, more abrupt, less full sound of a key (than say a grand piano.)
