There is a sense of worship within the Sema. According to the text on page 315 it states, “the Mevlevi are a sub order of Sufism, the mystical branch of Islam.” Sufism is the practice and mystical belief where Muslims try to find the truth of divine love and knowledge. most of their music is played by the flute where the sounds are very soothing to the ear. When a song begins, the sabazan, a volunteer, dances and has them achieve meditation where they can feel the love for God. they begin by crossing their arms which would mean their unity with God. Also, the texts of the Quran would be cited during the dance. Throughout the songs, there is a sense of peace and holiness. This music is very similar to gospel music. Gospel music is played within a ceremony of the Christian faith. For those who listen to gospel music, they feel a sense of peace and holiness as well. The texts are very easy to follow along and they are accompanied by an acapella group. however, there is no dancing to gospel music. There would be people singling along, but there is no dancing in this gene.
