Guitars are known to be able to produce many different and varying sounds, through the use of technology the genre of guitar’s sound can be switched almost instantly. One piece of technology that helps accomplish this would be pedals. Pedals add an effect to the guitar that makes it sound different based on what kind of peddle being used, you can even use more than one to create your own unique sound.
One of the more interesting pedals in my opinion is a “talkbox”. It involves the guitarist to speak or sing into the microphone and based on the sound they’re making into the mic, will determine the sound their guitar will make. Peter Frampton, a guitarist from the 70’s used in this in a jam (like a freestyle but with instruments) on Midnight Special.
I myself, never used a talkbox, but I have used distortion, reverb and drive pedals, all of which produce their own individual sound. Distortion may be used in punk bands or some indie/alternative, they were popular in bands like Nirvana and Radiohead. However, a reverb pedal may give more of a “surf” kind of sound but pedals are very versatile and you can get any sound you want with the right kind of pedals.
