Both “Libertango” and “Rite of Spring” are songs that are incorporated with a type of dance. In other words, music was created solely for the purpose/focus for dancing. However, overtime both ballet(Rite of Spring) and the tango (Libertango) are quite dignified in today’s culture and continues to be watched in modern day – either on popular dance shows such as “Dancing With the Stars” or dance recitals where the theme centers around ballet. Ultimately, both changes are considered to be positive since these days, a number isn’t only focused on one “act” of the performance but rather focuses on the complexity of music and dance as a whole. This ultimately illustrates a more entertaining and leaves a lasting impact on audience members.
In “Libertango”, the music accompanying the dance isn’t as complex as tango music would be today. Instead, it focuses on a steady beat thats easy to follow, focusing on the improvisation of the dance number rather than anything else. The difference between this piece and with music accompanying the tango, is that modern day tango is “remixed” in a way where audiences get a feel of different genres – thus signaling that the music is a lot more complex and no longer just focused on the dance number but rather, the theatrical element that a dance number has to offer (costumes, music, complex dancing that isn’t solely reliant on the tango.) However, what stayed the same is the foundation of the music from pieces similar to Libertango. While most tango music is more complex or is “remixed” the original piece is still there and the type of dancing someone would expect from listening to this, is still expected and preformed by artists.
“Rite of Spring” is often paired with Ballet music. Ballet music has different styles and often times a way to identify the tone a ballet is using, is through music. Rite of Spring is the foundation and the general “make up” of the basic elements of classical ballet. Rite of Spring is soothing and music is crucial because each beat correlates with a specific dance. Similarly to the orchestra (which is the type of music usually affiliated with ballet), ballet is focused on structure rather than improvisation. Ballet and orchestra music are usually seen as a formal occasion. Today, many ballets are very similar, where many of the ballets are tied in with classical, orchestral music. However, modern ballet is also incorporated and “spiced up” especially when going to a dance recital that is preformed by little kids at dance schools. This helps appeal to the younger audiences thus making it less complex for the performers to dance to. The use of orchestral music makes the number very complex and many professional ballet artists still continue to use music like this to display the tone of the “dancing play” as well as add complexity and elegance to the piece.
