“Baamaya”, is (or was) an important dance ritual for the Dagbamba villages. This ritual was used for moments in time when there was a drought occurring. This dance essentially was a rain dance, when hoping for rain. Despite this, now in time, the dance has changed meanings, and is now performed at funerals. I’d say the dance itself is the same, though there are no negatives or positives in it’s portrayal.

Stravinsky’s, “Rite of Spring” originally struck out with audiences. With other performances such as, “The Nutcracker”, the higher class audience expected beauty, and grace, yet got the “Rite of Spring”, which caused the audience to simply walk out. Understandably, this would be like wanting to hear the Beatles, and getting Hendrix. With this analogy, when performed now, people understand the meaning of the “Rite of Spring”, for what it is. When seeing the performance now, you can see the feelings of anxiety and fear that the people watching the original performance would have seen then, yet still feel it now. With this, there were definitely positive changes, as rather than being closeminded, the audience now, can understand what emotions are being portrayed. rather than walking out, or what it would be now, closing the tab.
