I found the Twentieth – Century Period (ca. 1900 – 2000) is one of the most interesting periods among six music periods. In this period the technology and lifestyles alone did not change but also explores new styles of music. The most exciting part of this period is an introduction to different styles of music like impressionism – focused on atmosphere and mood, aesthetics of expressionism, and most importantly minimalism. In my opinion, the presence of slow changes of tune and repetition of individual phrases in minimalism is one of the best attractions of it. “Minimalism is characterized by harmonic consonance, steady pulse, and the slow, hypnotic transformation of musical phrases” (10) supports my opinion about minimalism.

I listened to the composer for this period is Philip Glass (1937), who is considered as one of the first artists to develop minimal music along with Steve Reich, Terry Riley. Amongst his collections, I like Glassworks “Opening” (piano, with a horn at the end), released in 1998, which has been described as a part of minimal music. I love this piece of music because it’s quite mind soothing, and melodiously repeating sound brings peace in the heart. The energetic tune of the music makes me feel to go on or not to give up.
