The opening scene of Get Out (2017) portrays a black man walking through a white neighborhood while talking on the phone with his friend. As he is walking he tells his friend that the neighborhood makes him feel like a “sore thumb,” he sticks out. Then a car starts following him and he starts feeling extremely uncomfortable and freaked out. He walks the opposite way and suddenly a man with a helmet grabs him and puts him in the trunk of his car. This scene adds to the movie by foreshadowing how people of color are oppressed by white people.

There are many examples of diegetic sounds in the opening scene of the movie, such as, the chirping of the crickets, the phone call, Logan talking to himself, the music from the car, and as he is being attacked. At first the music of the car of the attacker was diegetic, which was “Run Rabbit Run” by Flanagan and Allen, eventually turns into nondiegetic sound by the end of the scene. The music adds to the scene by giving it a creepy and spine-chilling vibe.
