After listening to all of the types of concerts, I think I would be most comfortable at either a chamber recital or a full orchestral concert. As a choir singer and a piano player, I have both performed at and attended quite a few of these kinds of concerts in the past. One thing I like about both of these concerts is these level of professionalism and respect expected from both the musicians and the audience. The audience is expected to listen quietly and not distract the performers with talking or taking photos. The musicians should be presentable at all times, even when not playing, by not doing fooling around while waiting for rests. My high school music teacher used to emphasize this during our performances because she said that it would be very noticeable. Chamber music has less musicians than symphonic concerts, so the musicians can be more expressive, but both types of concerts in general carry a lot of a respect.

On the other hand, while I still can enjoy jazz performances, I think I would they are the type of concerts I would be the least comfortable. Jazz concerts can be in a wide variety of locations, including some very casual situations. In those cases, the audience isn’t required to pay full attention to the performers, and may be socializing or doing other things. The type of concerts I usually attend are those where everyone is seated and paying attention. I would not be used to everyone in the audience doing their own thing during the concert.

  1. Hi, I enjoyed reading your blog as I do agree with your statement on how an orchestral concert makes people more comfortable. I liked how you said that this type of concert places respect on both sides of the party, whether it is on what the audience and performers must wear, to how they should behave in the audience. Also, by you stating how jazz clubs does not make people to have their full attention towards the performers was a great choice of explanation of your reasoning to feeling less comfortable.

  2. I agree with everything you said. Like I mentioned in my blog, sometimes rude people at concerts do things that block others view or they start screaming so loud that you can’t hear the performer. This stops others from enjoying the concert.
