Upon looking at the different concert settings, the one which I would be most comfortable at is a Hindustani music concert. When I was younger I used to practice classical Hindustani music. As a result of my familiarity with the concept of Hindustani music as well as the different components described in the textbook and seen in the video, I can confidently say I would be most comfortable as an audience member of that concert. I was actually a part of a Hindustani concert once in which I played the tambura, described as the “drone” in the textbook. The concert setting is somewhat informal in which the audience members are free to come and go as they please. It isn’t restrictive in what you have to wear and once the performance starts, it kind of mesmerizes you so you don’t realize how much time passes. I especially like it when the performers improvise and do some very amazing and technical things with their voices.
The concert setting I would be least comfortable at would be a jazz concert. Based on the video, the concert setting is very informal. People aren’t expected to pay attention to the performers, which in my opinion is kind of disrespectful to them as performers. I feel like I would be uncomfortable in such a scene because I would want to pay attention to them and wouldn’t be able to do so with people conversing and not paying attention around me.

Hey Gaitree! You were one of the few people to touch on Hindustani Music and Concerts. I knew a few basic things but reading your blog helped inform me on some stuff I was missing out on. I like how you connected it with past experiences as I did the same in my blog. And I can see your point about jazz concerts and I can respect it as it’s a good point.
