I come from a very small country name Bangladesh. I came to America when I was about eight years old. Back then the country was still developing and the music was age friendly for both the elders and the younger generation. There is a lot of popular old music that is still played at different occasions but I want to focus on a new genre that I discovered while researching for this assignment. Bangladesh Hip Hop, I knew there were some “artists” that started making music with the same flows and bars as American Hip Hop artists. But I had no idea that the hip hop genre started from as early as the 2000s.
I found this piece of music (attached at the bottom/ converted to a link) and I expected something different. Although, it is labeled as “Hip Hop” there are numerous flaws and misunderstanding of what they know as American Hip Hop. I know that they have originated in 2000s but I guess their clothing style and representation have not changed. Also, by critiquing their music, I honestly feel this group is lost in terms of defining hip hop in Bangladesh. Their lyrics are hard to understand, it’s not that they are mumble rapping but its that they try to get the Eminem vibe and just started “rapping” at a very fast tempo. This music was definitely record at a studio that used a synthesizer keyboard to make the beats. I also heard an electronic guitar that gave a look of Rock music. As I mentioned earlier, that it was originated in the 2000s, despite all the flaws and misrepresentation, their music was a response to the country developing and targeting the political leaders and pointing out what they think are right or wrong. Today, the youth still make this music with wearing baggy pants, big gold chains, and their khaki boots. I would not say this type of music is tied to my ethnicity, rather it is a sort of entertainment put out to grab youths attention and make something out of themselves. This type of music has somewhat become popular in the youth’s lives.
