She now has a new boyfriend, but can not find it in herself to trust him completely even when he is pure. This song shows how a woman is hurt, but the guy who is in love with her is trying to help her. He also makes it clear that the men before her have cheated and lied, which is a very common accusation for men. I believe Russ did a good job in portraying gender roles in this song because you can tell that the girl is in love and is insecure about herself, but a man really loves her for who she is. However, many people believe that the lyrics “Despite the past, she can’t help the attraction. He tells her he’s nothing like the last one” means that the guy is saying what he has to say in order to get the girl. He also shows how the girl is a damsel in distress, where the man is the one who is trying to save her.
