An artist that breaks gender roles in her music is Cardi B. She is a rapper and is originally from the Bronx, New York. For the past several years there has been an abundance of male rappers in the music industry and a lack of female rappers. It is normal for male rappers to achieve success in the rap and hip-hop genre. Cardi B has been able to break this gender role standard by achieving a lot of success. She has won many recognitions including, first female artist to have all songs from an album, which was Invasion of Privacy, certified gold or higher in the US, she became the third female rapper to be nominated for Album of the Year, and she has the most awards of any female rapper in history.

A song in which she breaks gender roles is “I Like It” featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin. One verse states, “Now I like dollars, I like diamonds / I like stunting, I like shining / I like million dollar deals / Where’s my pen? Bitch I’m signin’”. Often times it is mostly a male rapper or artist that speaks about getting money. The tempo of the song is pretty fast and it makes the melody is really catchy.
