Song: Nude by Radiohead
Radiohead makes a lot of alternative rock or just alternative music in general. They sample a lot of different things and tend to use many forms of distortion on their instruments such as pedals for the guitars. They were influenced heavily by 80s alternative artists such as the Smiths, Sonic Youth and the Pixies. By the 90s, they started to adopt sounds from hip-hip such as by sampling from DJ Shadow and adding computer generated noises to their music. Radiohead has a ton of songs that I hold close to my heart but “Just” is one of my favorites because of the guitar solos and the switch up of distortion from a softer type of sound to that of a much louder type. The way the solos come into the song too is awesome.
The rhythm of the song has a fairly slow speed tempo all throughout the song. The meter stays about the same throughout the majority of the song with the occasional chops that don’t change the song drastically but enough for you to notice.
The song also has a consonant harmony with the main vocals. Guitars and bass compliment the vocals very well, giving a somber sound.
The song also has dynamics of crescendo when approaching the chorus, the vocalist begins raising his voice and the guitar begins to raise in volume too to match the crescendo of the vocals.
Timbre- Radiohead mainly uses strings and percussion in their songs. These fall under Electrophones in the form of electric guitars and also Membranophones through the form of the drum kit.
