At the moment, a song that I have been listening to on repeat is “Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen. Queen has been one of my favorite British bands since I was little. I would always blast their songs on full volume in my room, and it would always get me energized and hyped up. In my opinion, their songs always had a great tune to them. This famous British band, that was formed in the 1970’s, is considered to be placed under Rock genre. They were considered popular figures within Rock music, as they are still to this day, well-known in Rock history.

Within the song, one of the major elements that I personally hear is tempo. Tempo can be defined as the speed at which a piece of music or part of it is being played. For instance, this element classifies music within BPM (beats per minute). Throughout this song, the band has added a rhythmic beat that stands out, and is the general background music behind the vocals. In my opinion, this songs nonstop beats is hard to forget and can be easily classified by Queen fans. Also, by listening closely to the song, listeners can identify that the band has placed 110 BPM into their upbeat song.

Furthermore, another major element that this song uses is Crescendo. Crescendo can be classified as the increase in volume, of a note. Mid-way into the song and towards the end of it, the songs vocals increases and stays in that position until the song ends. However, as the song starts, the main lead singer, who was Freddie Mercury, his voice was placed within a standard volume.

Lastly, an important element that this song uses as well is Timbre. Timbre can be identified as the particular sound or color of an instrument that makes it unique. In the song, listeners can particularly overhear Percussion (hand claps), Chordophones (bass guitar, piano), and Electrophones (electric guitar).

  1. I am familiar with this song, and am a fan of Queen myself. I agree that when you listen to it, you can hear the notes getting louder. You can also hear the fast beat in the background very clearly.

  2. Hi I also chose a song by Queen because I love their music as well. I think you’re pretty spot on with the description of this song when it comes to the tempo and timbre. I also completely agree with you that their nonstop beats are hard to forget and I think that’s a major key in making them distinguishable from other artists.

  3. I listened to this song growing up through ads and stuff. Reading your blog and listening to the song afterwards helped me get more familiar with it. I liked how you pointed out the Cresendo, because it didn’t occur to me that it was present in the song beforehand.
