The purpose of a piano is according to composer John Mello is ” to make life easier in some way. It did so magnificently, providing an instrument that appealed to people at all levels and from all walks of life, giving many of them the incentive to create some of the world’s most popular music” (“Why the Piano Was Invented”). The piano is not an original instrument it is a modified and updated version of keyboard instruments like the organ.
The way a piano functions to produce sound is described by ” The notes and sounds made by a piano are the result of strings vibrating. The strings vibrate when they are hit by a hammer within the piano. The piano has 88 keys all of which play a different note. Multiple keys can be played at the same time to create chords and harmonies”(“Music for Kids : How the Piano Works”).
I personally have no experience playing the piano but I am not opposed not learning! I love the way it sounds. I love the way the piano sounds in “Someone Like You” by Adele. The keys are first major and then some minor ones come in. The heartbeat of this song is the piano. It gives the song its strength and power.

Hi, I found your blog interesting to read as you discussed about the piano, whereas I used to play the piano when I was younger. You have provided very interesting details about the piano that I had no idea of. For one, I did not know that a piano has 88 keys up until now. Plus, you had given me an Adele song to listen to, in which that satisfied my listening, since this particular song has a magnificent song being played by the piano in the background.
I love that you chose the piano! I used to be an avid player and took lessons for several years. I agree that anyone from all walks of life can learn to play and enjoy the piano. It’s a great skill to have. And the song you chose by Adele is a great example of piano integrated into the musical composition of a pop song.
I would have never thought of the piano as a type of technology used in music, but it really is! It’s one of the most incredible sounding instruments and you explained why that is. I also love that song!!!
